Ever gone round and round in circles in life? You don’t really get any futher until you resolve the issues that are stopping you from moving forward.
Abram had messed up in Egypt, but God, very graciously, allowed him to get out of that dangerous situation, with all his wealth intact. I wonder if Abram felt chastened, a bit embarrassed and ashamed? After a lot of wandering about, he ends up back where he last made contact with God. (Genesis 13 v 4)
It strikes me that that was the best thing he could do. When we’ve messed up, we need to get back to the last place we got it right. Until then, we just go round in circles.
The bible doesn’t tell us if Abram heard back from God. The important thing was that Abram at last felt able to humbly come and approach God again. What we do know, is that afterwards, Abram did get some things right – certainly not everything – but God had a plan for him, and making mistakes didn’t derail those plans. The way back was simply to come and call on the name of the Lord. Thank the Lord he is the God of second chances.
