He didn’t realise he wanted it till he got it!

Trying to teach other people how to make better use of their computer is a funny job. The difficulty is, that until they realise what they can do with it, they don’t know that they want to learn it!

This may have been God’s problem in Genesis 2 v 18. Adam had no idea about companionship, so didn’t realise he was lonely. God brought all the creatures before him to name, but in doing so, Adam was being given an object lesson in how life works – that living things come in pairs. I suppose it was the world’s first Sex Ed lesson!

Adam twigs on that whilst there are partners in everything else, there is no other Adam. Now he has realised his need, God sets about meeting his need.

This says so much about how God relates with us. First he puts his finger on an issue – maybe a sin, or an unhelpful attitude, or an area that he wants us to develop in, or a job he wants to draw us to, or something he wants to do in us or for us. Then, when we realise we are lacking, we reach out to him to meet that need, and of course he wants to meet it! No use scratching where we are not itching, and God knows there is sooooo much more for us, if we only knew we wanted it.
